ALLENTOWN – Backed by a sold-out crowd of nearly 10,000, Lehigh nearly pulled off a big upset on Sunday, before No. 1 Penn State rallied for a 23-19 victory over another Pennsylvania power.
The Nittany Lions (4-0) needed a victory from Nick Nevills at heavyweight to stay unbeaten, and the No. 3 ranked wrestler in the nation scored an escape and a riding-time point for a 2-0 victory over Jordan Wood.

No. 7 Lehigh (4-1) built a 15-0 lead on pins by Darian Cruz and Scotty Parker along with a decision from Luke Karam.
Zain Retherford got Penn State going with a fall at 149 pounds and Jason Nolf followed with a technical fall at 157.

The Lions were without national champion Vincenzo Joseph, and Lehigh’s Gordon Wolf took advantage, picking up a major decision that pushed the lead to eight at 19-11.
The Nittany Lions responded by winning the final four bouts. Mark Hall and Bo Nickal each had close wins, and Anthony Cassar’s decision put the dual in Nevills’ hands.
